Two
of last century’s most compelling design innovations are “new urbanism”
and conservation design, both of which built upon earlier traditions of
land use planning. Renowned author and speaker, Randall Arendt, will
present recent research and examples of conservation design conducted
for the upcoming revision of Rural by Design. This program
shows how conservation design techniques can be readily combined with
traditional neighborhood design principles to create walkable, mixed-use
neighborhoods, utilizing time-tested principles of community greenway
design. Join local planners, land developers, landscape architects, and
land conservationists to further explore Conservation Design in Central
Texas.
The morning session will include a presentation and workshop with Randall Arendt. In the afternoon, registrants have the option of attending one of two tracks: (1) a hands-on design exercise with Mr. Arendt (limited space) or (2) a panel discussion of opportunities and challenges of implementing Conservation Design in Central Texas. The day will wrap-up with a Low Impact Design presentation by Karen Bishop of the San Antonio River Authority.
